Save the Children Global Ventures Invests in Amparo Prosthetics to Expand Access for Children in Crisis

We are proud to share that Save the Children Global Ventures (SCGV) has invested in Amparo Prosthetics to help expand access to life-changing prosthetic care for children who have lost limbs in crisis and conflict zones. This investment marks a major milestone in Amparo’s journey—and reinforces the growing global recognition of our mobile, direct-fit system as a vital tool for restoring mobility, dignity, and independence in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

A Growing Crisis for Children

In 2024 alone, nearly 12,000 children were killed or injured in conflict zones, with 70% of those casualties caused by explosive weapons, according to a recent Save the Children report. Many of these children lose limbs in attacks and face unimaginable barriers to recovery—not just physically, but logistically, socially, and emotionally.

Traditional prosthetic systems are ill-equipped for these realities. They require repeated visits to clinics, prolonged rehabilitation, and access to specialized infrastructure that often doesn’t exist in humanitarian settings.

Amparo was created to change that.

Fast, Flexible, and Designed for Children

At the heart of our collaboration with Save the Children is the Amparo Pediatric Socket—the world’s first direct-fit prosthetic socket made specifically for children.

Fitted in under two hours and fully remoldable up to five times, this socket gives children a better chance at healing, growing, and thriving—even in places without conventional prosthetic services. As a child grows, the socket grows with them—reducing the cost and frequency of replacements and helping clinicians deliver care that’s efficient and effective.

Whether used in mobile field units or partnered clinics, Amparo’s direct-fit technology gives healthcare providers a way to fit, finish, and deliver a definitive prosthesis—on the same day.

“Every child deserves the chance to move, play and live with dignity, no matter what their circumstances.”
– Paul Ronalds, CEO, Save the Children Global Ventures

Scaling Up Global Impact

This investment is part of a growing movement to bring technological innovation into humanitarian care, and follows closely behind our recent global partnership with 3XP Global, which is helping us expand to more regions in need.

Together with 3XP and now SCGV, Amparo is building a global network of partners committed to one shared vision:
That no child—or adult—should be without access to quality prosthetic care, no matter where they live.

“Save the Children’s investment and global humanitarian reach will help us move our vision forward and deliver prosthetic care in places where it’s needed most.”
– Frederico Carpinteiro, CEO, Amparo Prosthetics

What’s Next?

With the support of Save the Children Global Ventures, Amparo will:

  • Expand access to the Pediatric Socket in conflict-affected areas
  • Deploy more mobile prosthetic units with trained clinicians
  • Increase manufacturing and support for humanitarian-focused initiatives
  • Advance our ongoing mission to make prosthetic care accessible anywhere, anytime

We’re deeply honored to partner with Save the Children Global Ventures and look forward to working together to bring mobility, recovery, and hope to children who need it most.
