Visit to China: Empowering O&P Professionals in Guangzhou and Kunming

Amparo recently concluded a highly successful and impactful trip to China, partnering with our esteemed distributor, Teh Lin Prosthetics & Orthotics. Our team spent five intensive days in Guangzhou and Kunming, delivering comprehensive training on Amparo’s innovative prosthetic solutions to a total of 50 attendees.

The purpose of this trip was to training the prosthetist at Teh Lin Prosthetics & Orthotics, focusing on the preparation, fitting, and modification of our Confidence and Resilience Sockets. The initiative aimed to equip prosthetic specialists with the theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively utilize Amparo’s direct-fit technology in a clinical setting, significantly enhancing patient care for lower-limb prosthetic users.

Hands-On Training and Key Insights

Our visit encompassed both the Kunming and Guangzhou offices, where we engaged with an amazing team of CPOs (Certified Prosthetist Orthotists) and dedicated model amputees. The training sessions were meticulously structured into modules, covering patient assessment, residual limb preparation, socket heating and molding, fitting and alignment, trimming and finishing, and crucial tips & tricks for optimal results.

In Kunming: The training included both Resilience Socket Small and Medium sizes. Patient feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with individuals feeling comfortable and stable after walking with the prosthesis.

In Guangzhou: The training structure was similar, with a key CPO also serving as a demo model. We continued refining techniques and addressing specific challenges. Discussions also focused on practical aspects of implementing Amparo sockets in the Chinese market, including technical fitting, cost considerations, socket weight (comparing Amparo sockets to locally made ones), and cosmesis.

Outcomes and Future Steps

The trip successfully trained CPOs to a high standard in the fitting of Amparo Sockets. All CPOs who participated had the opportunity to perform complete fittings. Patient feedback from those who tested the sockets confirmed comfort and stability.
